Why senior dogs need different support

A softer bed isn't more support. Often it's less.

A senior dog spends 14–18 hours a day lying down. As cartilage thins and muscle mass drops, the joints that used to absorb that load — hips, elbows, the lumbar spine — start taking it directly against the floor.

A plush, unsupported bed lets a heavy dog bottom out, concentrating pressure on exactly those points. An orthopedic surface does the opposite: a firm support core spreads body weight across the whole contact area, so peak pressure drops and circulation improves.

That's the entire job of the foam stack below — and it's why we publish density and ILD instead of saying "extra comfy."
