The problem

Foam mattresses for dogs come in two tiers. The $30 mass-market option compresses inside eight months — fine for a young dog, useless for a senior with joint pain. The $300 premium DTC option spends most of its unit cost on warehouse rent, retail-channel margin, and acquisition ads. The foam underneath both is often the same 2 lb-density polyurethane, and the cover usually gives out long before the foam does.

For a dog that's slowing down — stiff in the mornings, hesitant on stairs, slow to settle on hard surfaces — neither tier is built for the reality.
